Child Support

Conroe Divorce Lawyers | Houston Divorce Lawyers

Texas law provides for child support guidelines which are both a starting point and a presumption of fairness. The guideline formula takes in data on the parents' income and resources, and gives a number for monthly support. Deviation from this number, whether ordered by a judge after a hearing, or after an agreement by the parents, requires good cause, and a statement of that cause in the divorce decree or other document. Your situation may suggest deviation from the guidelines, and you need a family lawyer to press your case.

Texas Child Support Guidelines

The basic Texas Family Code guidelines for the computation of child support for situations in where the person paying the support has monthly net resources of $8,550.00 or less are as follows:

1 Child-- 20% of the calculated net amount of resources
2 Children-- 25% of the calculated net amount of resources
3 Children-- 30% of the calculated net amount of resources
4 Children-- 35% of the calculated net amount of resources
5 Children-- 40% of the calculated net amount of resources
6 or more Children-- Not less than 40% of the calculated net amount of resources

“This gentleman took a case at the last minute for a friend of mine. He compiled the relevant information within a short period of time, and presented it to the DA--resulting in all charges being dropped. As someone who has worked for lawyers I can say with confidence that Mr. Griffin is exceptionally dedicated and I would not hesitate to recommend him.” Richard
